Using the Templates

Key features of this template include popout navigation, popout workbook filters, and a pop-out info panel. All of these features are tiled elements in the dashboard and generally cannot be combined well with floating objects. The template is designed to simplify the building process and keep dashboards up to spec and properly spaced with Delish guidelines. Using a responsive/tiled design takes some time to get used to, but will improve coherence with KH standards. There is no data source or charts included with this template, and so it can be treated as a new/blank workbook.

Creating a new dashboard

1. Download the template file

Download the template file and use the template like you would a new, blank workbook. All the features and settings are included in this file to get you quickly building your dashboard.

This workbook does not include any data source or charts. This will make it easier to begin engineering your dashboard.

  1. Add your data source
  2. Build out your charts and worksheets
  3. Follow the Chart Gallery for getting alignment with design

The template dashboards are using entirely tiled containers, and floating objects generally will not work in this paradigm. This allows us to hide different page elements and keep charts/worksheets in view when showing hidden page elements (ie Workbook Filters and Navigation).

  1. Remove containers you don’t need, add configurations for your design by copy/pasting/adding containers | View how
  2. Copy and paste containers from other template pages as needed. Containers empty of any chart elements can be copied and pasted: delete any chart, copy the empty container, undo the delete, paste your empty container | View how
  3. Lock width for certain containers depending on the design. This can help prevent data breakage and charts being accidentally hidden from view | View how
  4. Float containers before adding into tile to make it easier to handle. Consider adding a blank shape to a layout container to make adding object easier | View how

As you drag charts onto the dashboard, hold the shift key to place them into a layout container. You will know when you are dropping them into the container when the layout container turns blue. | View how

  1. Remove placeholder text and boxes and then replace titles | View how
  2. Remove any unnecessary page elements (e.g. workbook filters, page filters, info pop out) by opening/shoring the container first, then delete the container and button | View how
  3. Test out how your content responds to opening of multiple popout menus. Adjust the design and lock certain container widths if needed | View how
  4. Replace the template logo with your Pod. Use the images from this app logo folder. | View how

This page component will allow you to navigate to internal and external dashboard content.

  1. Design specs
    • Primary/Large buttons: width 200, height 40, text 18px from left
    • Secondary/Small buttons: width 200, height 32, text 32px from left
    • Default buttons: no background color
    • Active page buttons: use background color #090C12
    • 0px inner and outer padding
  2. Steps
    • Use the “Navigation” button for internal dashboard pages
    • Use a Worksheet + URL Action to create buttons to external content (other dashboards)
    • Set your background color for the current page you are on
    • Group related content together in a nested group

When publishing your workbook make sure to select “include all external files.” This will ensure that the template buttons publish. | View how

Using the template for an existing project

1. Convert your highest level container to floating
  1. To more easily move and replace existing chart content, float your page objects and charts out of the primary background of the screen.
  2. Double click the container handle until you have selected the highest level container, or select it in the “Item Hierarchy panel
  3. Convert the container to “floating” | View how
  4. If your dashboard content is already floating you can keep it where it is

This will ensure that the template containers properly fill the space and that the dashboard design is aligned with Delish | View how

  1. In the template file, open up any hidden containers and select the highest level container (see Step 1) | View how
  2. In your existing dashboard, paste the template containers in your dashboard. You may need to hold shift while doing this to ensure they properly tile the space | View how
  3. Redirect show/hide buttons to work in new dashboard | View How

This is the most time consuming step in the transfer process. In this step you will move your contents to populate the form of the template.

  1. Drag your worksheet content into the existing containers
  2. Move spacers between containers to have everything line up correctly
